Gwangju City Council Environment and Welfare Committee Visits Flood Recovery Site
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council announced on the 4th that the Environment and Welfare Committee (Chairperson Shin Su-jeong) conducted an on-site visit to the Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center and Mangwol Cemetery Park, which are in the midst of flood recovery efforts.
The on-site visit was conducted with a minimal number of attendees to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The committee members listened to the welfare center's operational status and project plans at the Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center and received a report on the damage caused by the heavy rains in August.
They also inspected the area behind the welfare center where soil had slid due to the heavy rains, as well as the interior and exterior of the aging building, and discussed the necessity of rebuilding the municipal disabled welfare center to ensure smooth promotion of welfare projects for the disabled.
The committee members agreed on the need for reconstruction, noting that the disabled welfare center building is a 32-year-old aging structure exposed to safety risks due to leaks and cracks.
Afterwards, they also visited the 8th section of Mangwol Cemetery, where about 140 graves were damaged by the heavy rains in August.
