IBK, Branch Employees Responding to COVID Also Work from Home... Replaced by Online Lectures
Implementation of Rotational Work-from-Home System for Two Weeks Starting from the 3rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] IBK Industrial Bank of Korea is the first in the banking sector to apply remote work to employees at branches nationwide.
On the 2nd, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea announced that, in accordance with the implementation of 'Social Distancing Level 2.5,' it will operate a COVID-19 response remote work system for two weeks starting from the 3rd. Compared to the current workforce, the head office will have one-third, and branches will have one-fifth of their staff working remotely in a rotating system until the 16th. The target includes all employees at team leader level and below.
This is the first case in the banking sector where branch staff have been included in the remote work system to prevent the spread of COVID-19, drawing attention as other banks may adopt similar measures if the COVID-19 situation worsens.
IBK Industrial Bank of Korea explained that it decided on remote work for all employees to actively participate in the government's social distancing policy and to protect the safety of customers and staff. Although public institution remote work guidelines recommend one-third of staff, the bank decided on a one-fifth remote work ratio for branches to minimize customer inconvenience.

However, reflecting the nature of branch employees who cannot perform normal duties remotely, mandatory training courses such as anti-money laundering and workplace harassment prevention education, which employees must complete, will be conducted online to substitute for work. Additionally, the staggered commuting system will be expanded. The recommendation to use staggered commuting by more than 20% aims to minimize the risk of employee infection during crowded commuting hours.
