Yeosu Coast Guard Nokdong Police Substation, 'Visiting Distress Safety Class Operation'
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Song Min-woong) announced on the 2nd that it operated a 'Visiting Distress Safety Class' for 19 local fishermen in the Nokdong area of Goheung on the 1st.
The Nokdong Police Substation of Yeosu Maritime Police conducted a preliminary survey targeting local fishermen due to the amendment of the 「Fishing Management and Promotion Act」, which mandates the installation of liferafts on fishing vessels with a capacity of 13 or more passengers starting September 1 this year. The majority of fishermen were found to be inexperienced in operating lifesaving equipment such as liferafts, so customized safety education was prepared.
The training on that day covered ▲ education and delivery of the amended laws ▲ liferafts ▲ life jackets ▲ use of distress signaling equipment (smoke signal, flare) ▲ demonstration of automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), providing practical content necessary for fishermen.
Kim Young-jong, head of the Nokdong Police Substation, said, “To protect the precious lives and property of the people, we will always think from the public’s perspective and respond promptly,” adding, “We plan to continuously expand the operation of the ‘Visiting Distress Safety Class’ for the safety of maritime families.”
