Ssangyong Motor, 8,027 Units Sold in August... 19.9% Decrease YoY
Domestic and Export Both Decline Year-on-Year... Exports Show Recovery Surpassing '1000 Units'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] SsangYong Motor announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 8,027 vehicles last month, including 6,792 units domestically and 1,235 units for export.
A SsangYong Motor official explained, "Despite a reduction in operating days due to summer vacations last month, sales increased both domestically and internationally compared to the previous month, thanks to the launch of special models and the resumption of economic activities in global markets."
Domestic sales decreased by 15.5% compared to the same period last year. However, despite the spread of COVID-19, marketing activities aligned with the untact (contactless) purchasing trend, such as launching special models for each product and strengthening online promotions through home shopping, led to a 1.3% increase compared to the previous month.
The Rexton Sports was the best-selling model with 2,873 units, followed by the Tivoli, which sold 1,901 units, down 18% compared to the same period last year. The Korando recorded 1,426 units, an increase of 0.3% year-on-year and 4.6% month-on-month.
Exports also continued to grow, recording a 56.9% increase in August following more than an 80% increase in July, supported by the partial resumption of economic activities in major countries. As a result, last month saw exports exceed 1,000 units for the first time in five months since March.
SsangYong Motor is making various efforts to flexibly respond to the COVID-19 situation, including reorganizing its sales network in the Middle East by opening directly operated showrooms in Kuwait and Iraq last month, and relocating its dealership headquarters in the UK.
