Coupang "Creating More Jobs Than Jobs Lost by Top 500 Companies"
Coupang Ranks Fourth in Employee Count in First Half of the Year Following Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, and LG Electronics
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 1st that it created an additional 12,277 jobs in the first half of this year. According to data released by the corporate evaluation site CEO Score at the end of July, considering that the top 500 domestic companies reduced their workforce by 11,880 employees from February to June this year based on National Pension subscribers, Coupang has created more jobs than that. Furthermore, while 2,519 jobs disappeared from 44 domestic distribution companies during the same period, Coupang explained that it created about five times the total job losses in the distribution industry this year.
Based on this, Coupang has emerged as one of the 'Big 4' in the employment market. According to the number of National Pension subscribers from the National Pension Service, Coupang and Coupang Fulfillment Service, which operates logistics centers, currently employ 37,584 people as of June. Coupang added that this ranks fourth after Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, and LG Electronics.

The increase in Coupang's delivery workers, called 'Coupang Chingu,' also played a significant role in job creation. Coupang announced at the end of July that the number of Coupang Chingu surpassed 10,000 and changed the name of its delivery workers from Coupang Man to Coupang Chingu. Unlike courier workers who perform similar tasks, Coupang Chingu are employees directly hired by Coupang, working five days a week and receiving 130 days off annually, including 15 days of paid leave. A Coupang official said, "Coupang is a massive physical infrastructure," adding, "Unlike other IT companies, continuous human investment is necessary."
