[Democratic Party National Convention] Lee Hae-chan "New Leadership Must Prioritize Party and National Interests Over Personal Gains"
[Asia Economy reporters Kang Nahum and Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the next party leadership to be elected on the 29th to "prioritize the interests of the party and the nation over personal gain."
In a video greeting for the Democratic Party's national convention that day, Lee said, "If we handle matters democratically and according to the system, regardless of factions and interests, the party will naturally stabilize."
He emphasized, "Democratic operation and stable operation mean the same thing. I hope you always approach it with the mindset of an election. You must always act as if you are in an election. To win an election, you must continuously communicate with the people and act with a heavy sense of responsibility."
He continued, "Worrying is like a fish in a fishbowl. You must always act with the awareness that someone is watching. Just as during elections, you should listen to the will of the people in everyday operations."
Lee said, "Running a political party is like navigating the open sea. Sometimes you may face fierce storms and large waves, and you must push through the storms and swells. What you must not forget is the goal. The leadership’s direction and goals must be clear to reach the intended harbor."
He then reiterated, "I hope you move forward without wavering in the great voyage of the Moon Jae-in administration’s success, regime re-creation, democracy, livelihood, justice, and peace."
