Public Address by the Mayor of Geumcheon District Regarding the Government’s Strengthening of Social Distancing to Level 2
Hello, I am Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon District.
I extend my deepest sympathies to all residents who are experiencing significant inconveniences in their livelihoods and daily lives due to the recent nationwide spread of COVID-19.
Since the first confirmed COVID-19 case in our district on February 25, we have been making every effort to maintain continuous quarantine measures, including extensive proactive testing of vulnerable facilities, with the active cooperation of our residents.
Recently, along with the spread of COVID-19 in the metropolitan area, 26 confirmed cases have occurred intensively in our district within just two weeks.
Currently, the total number of confirmed cases in Geumcheon District is 67, which is the third lowest among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul; however, the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, indicating a crisis situation.
The government has decided to maintain social distancing at level 2 in the metropolitan area but strengthen quarantine measures from the 30th to September 6th to block the spread of COVID-19.
Quarantine measures will be intensified for restaurants, cafes, indoor sports facilities, and academies.
First, franchise-type cafes in the metropolitan area will not allow in-store use regardless of business hours; only takeout and delivery are permitted.
Restaurants will only be allowed to offer takeout and delivery from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.
Indoor sports facilities such as billiard halls and golf practice ranges will be subject to closure orders, and face-to-face classes at academies will be suspended.
Furthermore, to minimize external contact for the elderly, who have a high fatality rate, visits to nursing hospitals and care facilities will be prohibited, and day and night care centers and cooling shelters are recommended to close temporarily.
Dear residents of Geumcheon District,
Thank you for your hard work and sacrifices over the past seven months. To ensure the safety of Geumcheon residents and the restoration of daily life, our district will also do its utmost to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
To overcome this serious situation, your active cooperation is once again required.
Residents are urged to refrain from unnecessary outings, gatherings, and visits to multi-use facilities, and to observe personal hygiene rules.
Also, if you experience fever or respiratory symptoms, please immediately
contact the health center and get tested.
Let us all take responsibility as the main agents of quarantine, encourage and support each other, and overcome this crisis together.
Thank you.
