Won Hee-ryong Issues Administrative Order Banning Parties of Over 10 People at Jeju Guesthouses
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] On the 28th, Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Province, decided to issue an administrative order banning gatherings of 10 or more people holding parties at guesthouses and other lodging facilities within the province.
Governor Won stated, "We have determined that illegal nighttime parties held at guesthouses pose a high-risk behavior that could spread COVID-19. Therefore, we will issue a prohibition order on gatherings of 10 or more people at all guesthouses in the province." He added, "Through a full investigation, we will identify facilities where parties are planned and will also issue individual prohibition orders."
According to relevant laws, guesthouses are registered as rural lodging businesses and are not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages or food other than breakfast. However, it has been reported that some guesthouses are violating the law by hosting nighttime parties providing alcohol and food to guests.
On the 26th and 27th, it was reported that two individuals, a guesthouse operator and an employee who tested positive for COVID-19, gathered guests at night for a party, raising concerns about the need for action.
The provincial quarantine authorities, together with the provincial autonomous police unit, will investigate illegal business operations at lodging facilities starting from today and will conduct on-site guidance and crackdowns.
