Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young: "It's Pitiful to See Representative Ahn Cheol-soo Focused on Criticizing the Moon Jae-in Government"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon, fired a direct shot at Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, who criticized the promotion of public medical students as a modern-day nepotism system, saying he pitied Ahn for being solely focused on "bashing the Moon Jae-in administration."
On the 26th, Mayor Yeom said on Facebook, "Regarding the 'Act on the Establishment and Operation of the National Public Health Medical University (Public Medical School),' Leader Ahn criticized it as a 'modern-day nepotism system.' As a doctor, his remarks are expert-like, and I will look into that more calmly later, but I cannot help but ask whether the issue of nepotism is urgent in the current (second general strike) situation."
He added, "I believe there is a time for every statement (by politicians). No matter how much you dislike the Moon Jae-in administration, the number one concern of the people right now is the doctors’ strike, and I feel sorry for Leader Ahn, who seems to be solely focused on 'bashing Moon Jae-in,'" expressing regret.
He also advised, "If I were Leader Ahn, I would go out to the streets and persuade the junior doctors on strike to return to their posts first," adding, "Only then will the public believe that the image of volunteering during the COVID-19 outbreak in Daegu last time was a true image, not a lie."
Furthermore, Mayor Yeom said, "Doctors’ strikes are receiving harsh criticism from the public because they put the lives of the people at stake," and questioned, "Workers risk their own lives when they fight, but don’t you hear the sarcasm that doctors are fighting by risking the lives of the people?"
He also asked, "Leader Ahn, do you think doctors striking in this serious COVID-19 emergency situation is a priority?" and fired a direct shot, saying, "Clarify that first and then continue 'bashing the president.'"
Earlier, on the 25th, Leader Ahn said on Facebook regarding the controversy over 'recommendation of public medical students' by city and provincial governors and civic groups, "Now that they openly say they aim for an unfair society (Moon Jae-in administration), their shamelessness has gone beyond limits and is outrageous."
He also claimed, "At least a machine that produces fake certificates of commendation, false intern certificates, and bogus volunteer confirmations will be fully mobilized to meet the recommendation qualifications," and said, "The government openly institutionalizing a modern-day nepotism system is truly the institutional legalization of corruption."
He added, "Stop this idea immediately, which destroys justice and fairness and creates a ladder for social advancement only for their own children."
