Gyeonggi-do Adds 3 Cities/Counties and 5 Townships as 'Special Disaster Areas'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Recently, three cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province that suffered significant damage from heavy rain?Ichon-si, Gapyeong-gun, and Yeoncheon-gun?as well as five myeon (townships) including Wonsam-myeon and Baegam-myeon in Yongin-si, Idong-myeon and Yeongbuk-myeon in Pocheon-si, and Danwol-myeon in Yangpyeong-gun, have been additionally designated as special disaster zones.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 25th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducted a 'Joint Central and Provincial Disaster Damage Survey' from the 13th to the 23rd, meticulously investigating the previously excluded damaged areas down to the eup, myeon, and dong (township and neighborhood) levels. On the 24th, three cities/counties and five myeon in the province were additionally designated as special disaster zones. Earlier, on the 7th, the Ministry had designated Anseong-si, which suffered severe flood damage, as the first special disaster zone.
According to the survey results, the damage amounts are as follows: Ichon-si 16.6 billion KRW, Gapyeong-gun 15.2 billion KRW, Yeoncheon-gun 29.2 billion KRW, Wonsam-myeon in Yongin-si 2.5 billion KRW, Baegam-myeon 2.6 billion KRW, Idong-myeon in Pocheon-si 800 million KRW, Yeongbuk-myeon 1.1 billion KRW, and Danwol-myeon in Yangpyeong-gun 2.9 billion KRW.
Special disaster zones receive additional national treasury support for part of the local government’s share of restoration costs. Residents who suffered damage to their homes and primary livelihoods such as agriculture and fisheries are provided with disaster relief funds for livelihood support, along with additional benefits such as reductions in electricity bills and other public utility charges.
