Comparison of Payment Amounts by Industry Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Compared to last year, the industry with the largest increase in payment amount this year was found to be 'delivery.' Application (app) analysis service WiseApp announced on the 25th that it investigated the rise and fall of consumer payment amounts by retail industry from January to July this year.
WiseApp conducted a sample survey of amounts paid by Korean individuals aged 20 and over at representative retail brands by industry from January to July and compared them with the payment amounts during the same period last year. The top brands in the delivery industry, Baedal Minjok and Yogiyo, showed a 74% increase. The industry with the second highest payment amount growth rate was 'internet services.' Top brands in internet services such as Google, Netflix, Nexon, and Oneul-ui Jip showed a total payment amount increase of 30% compared to the same period last year. 'Internet shopping,' represented by Coupang, eBay Korea, Naver, and 11st, saw a 23% increase in total payment amount compared to the same period last year. The 'home shopping' industry, including GS Home Shopping, Lotte Home Shopping, Home&Shopping, and NS Home Shopping, increased by 4% this year.

The industries with significant declines were travel (-62%), airlines (-68%), theaters (-73%), and duty-free shops (-74%). This estimation by WiseApp is based on amounts paid by Korean individuals aged 20 and over using credit cards, debit cards, account transfers, and mobile micropayments at the respective retail sectors. Payments made via corporate cards, corporate account transfers, inter-company transactions, cash transactions, and gift certificates are not included.
