US Police Shoot Black Man from Behind... Curfew Imposed Amid Intense Protests (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Another incident occurred in the United States where a Black man was critically injured after being shot by police.
According to major foreign media on the 23rd (local time), Jacob Blake, a Black man, was transported to a hospital after being shot by police around 5 p.m. in Kenosha, Wisconsin. At the time, the man was reportedly unarmed. The Kenosha police did not specify the exact circumstances of the shooting, only stating that they had responded to a 'domestic issue.'
In the video capturing the incident, a man is seen walking toward a parked vehicle on the street while white police officers follow him with guns drawn. When the man opens the driver's side door, the pursuing officers fire multiple shots.
Human rights attorney Ben Crump criticized on Twitter, "At the time, three of Blake's sons were in the car he was trying to enter," adding, "They witnessed the scene and will suffer trauma forever." He also stated through CNN that Blake's family has reached out to him for support. The Wisconsin Department of Justice is currently investigating the case, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
As the video spread on social media, intense protests erupted among citizens. During the protests, fires broke out, and as the situation worsened, authorities imposed a curfew on the entire city until 7 a.m. the following day.
