"If Left Alone, Both Suffer" Busan City to Intervene in 'COVID-19 Wedding Disputes'
Taking Mediation on Reservation Cancellation Disputes for Win-Win Between Wedding Industry and Consumers
Proposal of Settlement After Reviewing Damage Cases at 'Busan Consumer Life Center'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City is intervening in 'wedding disputes.'
On the 23rd, Busan City announced that it will actively work to remedy consumer damages as wedding disputes related to reservations and cancellations at buffet restaurants have surged following the government's implementation of social distancing level 2.
Under the current social distancing level 2, which limits wedding attendees to fewer than 50 people and suspends buffet operations at wedding halls, many disputes have arisen in the wedding sector, including issues over cancellation penalties.
Busan City stated that if consumers report cases of excessive penalty demands by businesses to the 'Busan Consumer Life Center,' professional counselors will review the damage situations and propose settlement plans, pursuing multifaceted damage remedies.
To minimize disputes related to weddings, the city plans to mobilize related officials from the city and each district and county to focus on on-site guidance and advance notifications to the wedding industry until the end of August.
The Fair Trade Commission is also preparing exemption and reduction standards considering the risk level due to infectious disease outbreaks to resolve disputes such as penalties related to the wedding industry, which will be reflected in the consumer dispute resolution standards and standard terms and conditions around the end of September.
