[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hanwha Systems has joined forces with the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science to develop next-generation radar technology and performance.
Hanwha Systems recently announced that it has renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science for "joint research on radar technology utilizing electromagnetic wave technology."
This MOU renewal aims to significantly expand the scope of cooperation across the entire radar field, including active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar technology, ▲ multifunction radar (MFR) system performance analysis through electromagnetic wave analysis, ▲ mutual interference among radar sensors and improvement of radar cross section (RCS), and ▲ research on imaging radar.
Previously, Hanwha Systems and the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science signed an MOU in 2017, focusing on environmental analysis and joint research of AESA radar technology. The two organizations hold more than 2 to 3 research exchange meetings annually and participate in the institute’s two official academic conferences each year.
Recently, the institute’s English journal JEES (Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science) was indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), gaining recognition in the international academic community.
Kim Yeon-cheol, CEO of Hanwha Systems, said, “Through mutual cooperation between Hanwha Systems and the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, we will be able to dramatically enhance radar detection technology performance. Hanwha Systems will secure export competitiveness in the highly advanced radar field utilizing electromagnetic waves and contribute to the development of the defense industry in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
