The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 20th (local time) that the number of new unemployment benefit claims last week (August 9?15) was recorded at 1,106,000.
This is an increase of 143,000 claims compared to 963,000 claims the previous week.
Last week marked the first time in 21 weeks that the number fell below one million, signaling a positive sign for employment recovery, but just one week later, it showed a sharp increase again.
