Trump: "Korea Can Solve the COVID-19 Resurgence Issue"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] On the 19th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned South Korea's resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and said, "South Korea will be able to solve that problem."
At a White House press briefing that day, President Trump praised himself, saying that as a result of the federal government using full authority to defeat COVID-19, new confirmed cases significantly decreased last week, and the proportion of those aged 44 and under among total deaths was only 2.7%.
He then referred to South Korea, saying, "I have seen that South Korea is doing well," and added, "There was a very big breakout just before. However, they will be able to solve that problem."
Since the 14th, the number of confirmed cases in South Korea has increased to triple digits, with over 1,500 confirmed cases in the past week. The spread is also accelerating, with 297 confirmed cases on the 19th and 288 on the 20th.
