Safety Accident Occurs on Goheung Zip Track... Operation Suspended
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Namyeol Space Launch Observatory zipline in Yeongnam-myeon, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, which has been emerging as a new attraction, has been completely suspended due to safety concerns.
The incident involved the cargo line of the zipline breaking during operation, leading to a full suspension. Fortunately, tourists at the time were using the four gliding lines excluding the cargo line, so no casualties occurred.
According to Goheung-gun on the 20th, around 5 p.m. on the 15th, the cargo transport line at the Namyeol Space Launch Observatory zipline in Yeongnam-myeon, Goheung-gun, suddenly snapped.
The zipline operates five lines in total, and the line involved in the accident is exclusively for cargo, used to retrieve and transport safety equipment worn by users.
Due to this accident, equipment attached to the cargo line fell into the sea, causing property damage estimated at around 100 million KRW.
Although the cargo line broke, Goheung-gun has fully suspended operations to ensure tourist safety and has launched an investigation.
The Namyeol Space Launch Observatory zipline in Yeongnam-myeon opened on the 17th of last month. Goheung-gun has promoted the zipline as the longest in the country installed over the sea, with a length of 1.53 km.
Goheung-gun invested 3 billion KRW to build the zipline and has entrusted its operation to a private contractor.
On weekends, 300 to 400 people use the facility, making it a local attraction.
Goheung-gun plans to decide on resuming operations after repairing facility defects and securing safety, so reopening is expected to take some time.
