Chosun University Conducts Flood Recovery Volunteer Activities in Gokseong
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The volunteer group of Chosun University announced on the 19th that they carried out volunteer activities to support flood damage recovery in Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do.
Gokseong-gun experienced heavy rainfall of up to 550mm over eight days starting from the 7th. Along with landslides, the embankment of the Seomjin River collapsed, flooding houses and farmlands in many areas, resulting in over 1,300 displaced residents.
Hearing that volunteer manpower in Gokseong-gun was severely lacking due to the spread of COVID-19, Chosun University formed a volunteer group to contribute to flood recovery efforts.
The volunteer group included 35 faculty and staff members and 115 students who participated voluntarily, with many freshmen and international students also included.
On that day, the Chosun University volunteer group visited Geumye Village to clean up crops damaged by the flood and trash that had flowed into rice paddies and fields, and wash agricultural tools stained with muddy water used by residents.
