[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] SK Innovation continues its mangrove forest restoration activities in Vietnam despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to industry sources on the 19th, the 'Vietnam Social Value Alliance,' led by SK Innovation, plans to plant 180,000 seedlings over 30 hectares of mangrove forest in Vietnam this year. This is part of the mangrove forest restoration efforts jointly carried out by SK Innovation, the UN Environment Assembly Korea Association, and others in Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam since 2018.
This year, the organization 'Vietnam Social Value Alliance,' launched together with SK Innovation, Vietnam's state-owned oil company PVEP, the UN Environment Programme Korea Association, Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Tra Vinh Province, has been conducting tree-planting events in the mangrove forest area since this month. SK Innovation previously planted approximately 160,000 seedlings over a total area of 40 hectares from 2018 through the end of last year.
Notably, the project funds for the mangrove restoration initiative were raised through the '1% Happiness Sharing Fund,' voluntarily donated by SK Innovation employees. The 1% Happiness Sharing Fund is a donation program where SK Innovation employees contribute 1% of their monthly base salary to promote social value initiatives.
Based on the achievements of its Vietnam project, SK Innovation plans to expand mangrove forest restoration efforts to Myanmar as well.
