[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] As the fishing villages have been suffering from land-based waste flowing along the river due to over 50 days of continuous monsoon rains, Lim Jun-taek, Chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, instructed officials to "seek support measures to ensure prompt collection."
Visiting fishing villages in the Han River estuary area, including Incheon Sinbul Fishing Village and Nambuk Fishing Village, Chairman Lim emphasized, "The amount of land-based waste flowing into fishing villages and grounds due to heavy rainfall is enormous," adding, "It must be collected as soon as possible to prevent damage to fishermen." He further stated, "Since there are limits to what fishermen and the fisheries cooperative can do on their own, we will request that the government and local governments take an interest and provide support."
Following the inspection of the land-based waste sedimentation site, Chairman Lim visited the Gangseo Wholesale Market of the Gangseo Fisheries Cooperative in Seoul to check seafood price trends during the monsoon season. At the site, he urged, "Please make every effort to ensure there are no disruptions in seafood supply."
