Emart and KakaoBank Collaborate... Launch of '26-Week Savings With Emart'
Online Finance and Industry's First Collaboration
Discount Coupons and Cashback Totaling 88,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Emart has become the first offline retailer to partner with an online financial company to launch financial products. On the 18th, Emart teamed up with KakaoBank to release the '26-Week Savings With Emart' financial product. The subscription period is two weeks, from that day until the 31st. The initial subscription amount can be chosen from 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 5,000, or 10,000 KRW. The interest rate is up to 1.1%. It is the same annual 0.9% rate as KakaoBank’s existing 26-week savings, with an additional 0.2% for meeting automatic transfer conditions. The 2/6-week savings is a product where the weekly deposit amount increases by the initial subscription amount. For example, if you deposit 1,000 KRW in the first week, it increases to 2,000 KRW in the second week and 26,000 KRW in the 26th week.
The 26-week savings is a popular savings product previously operated by KakaoBank, and this is the first time it has been introduced in collaboration with another company.
The reason Emart collaborated with KakaoBank is to attract young consumers in their 20s and 30s, who are familiar with online platforms, to offline stores. An Emart representative explained, "We partnered with KakaoBank, which has a relatively young average customer age, to inform young consumers in their 20s and 30s about the advantages and fun of offline shopping." KakaoBank can also serve as a channel to attract middle-aged and older supermarket customers. Since the main customer bases of the two industries differ, this collaboration is expected to expand each consumer segment.
Emart offers customers who subscribe to the savings product discount coupons and cashback benefits worth up to 88,000 KRW. Customers who successfully complete automatic transfers every week will receive Emart discount coupons worth up to 68,000 KRW in total, distributed over nine times every three weeks. In the first week, a '3,000 KRW discount coupon for purchases over 30,000 KRW' is provided immediately upon deposit, and thereafter, discount coupons are given every three weeks from the 4th to the 25th week. The discount coupons provided from the 4th to the 25th week range from 5,000 KRW to 20,000 KRW off. The total discount benefit from the nine coupons is 68,000 KRW. Issued coupons can be registered on the Emart app and used at Emart stores nationwide.

Cashback amounts will be paid into the KakaoBank deposit account within 10 days after the savings maturity date. An event offering a chance to win a 'Limited Edition Kakao Friends Shopping Basket' is also underway. Among customers who subscribe to the product, 60,000 people will be selected by lottery to receive a medium-sized 35L shopping basket featuring the 'Kakao Friends-Emart Character.' Winners can collect their baskets at the Emart customer center between September 11 and 30.
