Say "Chiyu Nongjang" instead of "Care Farm"
'One-Loop Service' Alternative Term Recommended as 'Han Jibung Service'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 18th that the term ‘care farm’ be replaced with the Korean term ‘chiyu nongjang’ (healing farm). They also suggested ‘han jibung seobiseu’ (one-roof service) and ‘bokhap munhwa gonggan’ (complex cultural space) as Korean alternatives for ‘one-roof service’ and ‘larchiveum,’ respectively.
‘Care farm’ refers to farms or gardens operated to restore and promote health, or to such facilities. The selection of the alternative term ‘chiyu nongjang’ was based on survey results. In a public acceptance survey conducted on the 10th and 11th with about 600 participants, 60.2% of respondents answered that it was appropriate.
‘One-roof service’ means a service that integrates various processes and functions necessary for a specific task so that they can be carried out comprehensively. It mainly refers to a method where dispersed related institutions are housed in one building to handle tasks. ‘Larchiveum’ refers to an institution or space that integratively combines the characteristics of a library, archive, and museum. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language decided on the alternative terms ‘han jibung seobiseu’ and ‘bokhap munhwa gonggan’ at the Saemal Meeting held from the 7th to the 9th.
