View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A petition demanding the impeachment of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae has garnered more than 200,000 signatures, the minimum threshold for an official response from the government.
The petition titled "Impeachment of Minister Choo Mi-ae," posted on the 14th of last month, had received 203,976 signatures as of 1:55 PM on the 13th.
The petitioner stated, "She disregarded President Moon Jae-in's dignity and the entire nation, acting as if she were a king by saying 'the chief prosecutors or the Prosecutor General are defying me,'" adding, "She is arrogant and unprecedented among justice ministers. I hereby petition for her impeachment."
Earlier, the United Future Party and the People's Party jointly submitted an impeachment motion against Minister Choo on the 20th of last month.
Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the United Future Party, explained the grounds for impeachment at the emergency committee meeting that day, saying, "Minister Choo violated the law by abusing various powers under the Prosecutors' Office Act and also damaged her dignity," and "She committed more violations and damage to dignity than any previous justice minister and undermined the independence of investigations."

The impeachment motion was put to a vote at the National Assembly plenary session on the 23rd of last month. Out of 292 members present, 109 voted in favor, 179 against, and 4 abstained, resulting in its rejection.
