[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] A meaningful meeting was held for research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence among science and engineering specialized universities.

GIST (President Kim Gi-seon·Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) announced on the 12th that it jointly hosted the 'Moonlight AI Workshop 2020' with DGIST (President Guk Yang·Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology) on the 11th.

The workshop, co-hosted by GIST AI Graduate School and DGIST Department of Information and Communication Convergence, was conducted non-face-to-face through the online lecture program Zoom.

Under the theme of 'AI Lightweighting and Reinforcement Learning,' experts including professors, researchers, and graduate students from both institutions gathered to share the latest ongoing research and development technologies.

The workshop was conducted in two sessions.

In the first session, Professor Kim Yesung's team from DGIST Department of Information and Communication Convergence introduced and presented a brain engineering-based AI lightweighting model developed in-house, followed by an introduction of a lightweight model for visual cognition on edge devices developed by Professor Choi Jonghyun's team from GIST AI Graduate School.

The second session began with Professor Kim Kyungjoong's team from GIST Interdisciplinary School of Convergence Technology presenting offline learning methods and application cases of reinforcement learning to apply reinforcement learning to real-world problems using vast accumulated data.

Next, Professor Kwak Jungho's team from DGIST Department of Information and Communication Convergence introduced reinforcement learning techniques for content caching networks.

Kim Jongwon, Dean of GIST AI Graduate School, said, “Since this Moonlight Workshop is held with AI experts from both institutions, it is expected to be a meaningful attempt to share the latest information in the AI field and to activate research exchanges,” adding, “I hope the Moonlight Workshop will be held continuously to serve as a foundation for balanced regional development, nurturing AI convergence talents, and above all, creating future jobs.”

Park Kyungjun, lead professor of DGIST Department of Information and Communication Convergence, said, “This workshop was held to exchange the latest information on AI lightweighting research and reinforcement learning technology, which are the two schools' main focus areas,” and added, “I hope this event will lay the groundwork for joint research promotion and enable us to conduct good research that can contribute to the future development of AI technology together.”
