View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Regarding the capsizing accident of a vessel on Uiamho Lake in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, which resulted in 4 deaths and 2 missing persons, the police are conducting raids on 11 locations, including Chuncheon City Hall and companies involved in the installation and management of artificial aquatic plant islands, on the 12th.
The 'Uiamho Distress Accident Investigation Task Force,' composed of detectives from the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency and Chuncheon Police Station, obtained search warrants from the court on the 11th and began raids at 1:30 PM on Chuncheon City Hall and companies involved in the installation and management of artificial aquatic plant islands.
The raids aim to secure documents related to the 'installation and management of artificial aquatic plant islands on Uiamho Lake,' evidence regarding whether 'work instructions' were given on the day of the accident, and materials related to the 'response to the situation before and after the accident.'
A total of 25 personnel, including the head of the detective division of Chuncheon Police Station, were mobilized for the raids, and 4 digital forensic specialists participated to seize electronic information such as computers and laptops.
The investigation task force is conducting investigations based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage around Uiam Dam, mobile phone data, and police patrol boat CCTV footage.
In particular, the investigation is focusing on why multiple vessels, including the three vessels involved in the accident, were engaged in reckless mooring work amid heavy rain and active dam discharge.
Earlier, at around 11:34 AM on the 6th, three vessels?a private rubber boat engaged in mooring artificial aquatic plant islands, Chuncheon City Hall’s environmental monitoring boat, and a police patrol boat?capsized about 500 meters upstream from Uiam Dam in Seomyeon, Chuncheon.
