KOSPI Pauses... Closes Slightly Higher in the 2250s
KOSDAQ Closes at 827... Highest Level Since September 2018
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The KOSPI slightly rose, recovering to the 2250 level. The KOSDAQ surged more than 1.5%, closing at 827.57, its highest level since 2018.
On the 3rd, the KOSPI closed at 2251.04, up 0.07% (1.67 points) from the previous session. It opened at 2251.65, up 0.10% from the previous trading day, fluctuated throughout the session, and ended with a slight gain.
In the KOSPI market, individual investors' buying pressure prevented the index from falling. Individuals net purchased 625.1 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions net sold 269.1 billion KRW and 380.7 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, chemicals (2.84%), food and beverages (2.68%), and services (2.14%) showed notable gains. Conversely, machinery (-2.35%), distribution (-1.68%), insurance (-1.56%), and transportation and warehousing (-1.25%) declined.
Most of the top 10 market capitalization stocks rose. LG Chem surged 11.8%, nearing a market cap of 45 trillion KRW. Kakao (6.5%), NAVER (4.4%), and Samsung SDI (4.2%) also increased. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics (-1.9%), LG Household & Health Care (-1.5%), and SK Hynix (-1.2%) declined.
On the same day, the KOSDAQ closed at 827.57, up 1.50% (12.27 points) from the previous trading day. This is the highest closing level since September 21, 2018 (827.84).
In contrast to the KOSPI, foreigners and institutions drove the KOSDAQ index. They net purchased 47.5 billion KRW and 4 billion KRW, respectively, while individuals net sold 18.2 billion KRW.
Most sectors rose. Pharmaceuticals (3.28%), digital content (3.24%), and non-metallic minerals (3.23%) showed relatively large gains. Publishing and media reproduction (2.26%), IT software and services (2.09%), and information devices (2.00%) also increased. Conversely, transportation equipment (-1.13%), broadcasting services (-1.13%), and transportation (-0.90%) declined.

Many of the top market capitalization stocks in the KOSDAQ also rose. Seegene surged 11.3%. Genexine (6.0%), EcoPro BM (4.7%), and Celltrion Healthcare (3.1%) also increased. Meanwhile, CJ ENM (-2.2%) and HLB (-2.1%) declined.
