Taxpayer Rights Protection for Local Tax Appeals in Gimje City
Operation of the Proxy System for Local Government Representatives
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Gimje City, Jeonbuk, is set to actively operate the Local Government Appointed Representative System to protect the rights of small taxpayers in filing objections to local taxes.
On the 3rd, the city announced that it will operate a taxpayer rights relief system by designating experts such as lawyers and tax accountants appointed by Jeonbuk Province to provide free legal review, consultation, and supplementation of evidence documents on behalf of taxpayers.
This aims to protect the rights of taxpayers who hesitated to file objections due to the complexity of the objection process despite having objections to local tax imposition, or due to the cost of hiring tax representatives, as well as those who were unaware of the objection procedures themselves.
The support target is individuals (excluding corporations) who file objections (objection application, pre-assessment review, review request) without hiring a tax representative and whose payable tax amount is 10 million KRW or less, with total property value including spouse of 300 million KRW or less, and comprehensive income of 50 million KRW or less.
However, high-amount or habitual tax delinquents subject to travel bans and public disclosure lists are excluded, and due to the nature of the tax items, tobacco consumption tax, local consumption tax, and leisure tax are not applicable.
Taxpayers wishing to receive support must submit an application form when filing an objection of 10 million KRW or less, after which their income and property qualifications will be reviewed, and an appointed representative will be notified within 7 days from the date of receipt.
