View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 23 on the 3rd.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 23 from the previous day’s midnight to 14,389.
The daily new confirmed cases once surged to 113 on the 25th of last month when a large number of Korean workers returning from a construction site in Iraq and Russian seamen tested positive, but since then, the number has fluctuated in double digits. It recorded 36 cases on the 31st of last month, 31 cases on the 1st, and stayed in the 30s for three consecutive days before dropping to the 20s on this day.
Among the 23 newly confirmed cases, 3 were locally transmitted and 20 were imported. All local transmissions occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area: 2 in Seoul and 1 in Gyeonggi Province.
Of the 20 imported cases, 14 were detected during quarantine. The remaining 6 tested positive while in self-isolation at their residences or temporary living facilities in Seoul (3), Gyeongnam (2), and Gyeongbuk (1).
The countries from which the imported cases arrived were Bangladesh and Russia with 4 cases each, the highest numbers. Following were the Philippines, Japan, the United States, and Algeria with 2 cases each, and India, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and Mexico with 1 case each.
Of the 23 new confirmed cases on this day, 6 occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area. Nationwide, new cases were reported in 4 cities and provinces.

The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation reached 13,280, an increase of 21 from the previous day. The death toll remained at 301, unchanged from the previous day.
