'Water Bomb' in Northern Gyeongbuk... 50 Vacationers Isolated in Bonghwa and Yeongju, Railway Washed Away

According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters on the 2nd, around 9 a.m., as the water level of the Nakdong River rose in the area of Buncheon-ri, Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, about 30 people from six families were trapped in a nearby pension and have been waiting for rescue as of noon.
In a valley in Uguchi-ri, Chunyang-myeon, two people, and at a campsite in Namdae-ri, Buseok-myeon, Yeongju-si, 15 people are waiting for rescue by fire authorities due to rising waters. As the ground weakened, landslides occurred in three locations including Beopjeon-ri, Beopjeon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, and train operations on the Yeongdong Line were suspended due to landslides and railroad washouts around Hyundong Station to Buncheon Station in Bonghwa.
At the entrance of Norujae Tunnel on National Road 31 in Hyundong-ri, Socheon-myeon, the road is blocked by soil and debris, and 18 roads in the Bonghwa area are being controlled due to flooding and other issues. Along the Toilcheon stream in Bongyang-ri, Bongseong-myeon, about 300 meters of the embankment was washed away, flooding one pigsty and 0.8 hectares of farmland.
The cumulative rainfall as of noon on this day was 166.5 mm in Chunyang, Bonghwa; 162 mm in Socheon; 164.5 mm in Bongseong; 141.5 mm in Bonghwa; 99.5 mm in Seokpo; 142 mm in Myeongho; and 99.5 mm in Buseok, Yeongju.

Meanwhile, heavy rain warnings are currently in effect for the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, including Mungyeong, the plains of Bonghwa, and Yeongju. Heavy rain advisories have been issued for the plains of Uljin and Yecheon.
