Gyeongju City Reorganizes Signal System in Chronic Congestion Areas... "Traffic Flow Greatly Improved"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongju City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 31st that it has improved traffic flow in habitual congestion areas such as Yongdam-ro, Sanup-ro, and Gangbyeon-ro in collaboration with the Gyeongju Police Station.
Previously, to improve traffic flow, the traffic signal controllers on National Route 7 from the city center to Ulsan were connected online to the Gyeongju Traffic Information Center, and basic surveys such as vehicle traffic volume measurement at major intersections and test vehicle driving investigations were conducted.
Based on these results, starting from May 28, Gyeongju City and the Gyeongju Police Station jointly carried out tasks such as signal coordination and signal cycle changes to facilitate smoother traffic. As a result, on weekdays, the travel speed in habitual congestion sections increased by about 24%, from 34.4 km/h to 42.7 km/h, on Yongdam-ro (from Gyerim High School Samgeori to Hyeongok 2nd Prugio), Sanup-ro (from Geunhwa Girls' High School intersection to Cheonggangsa intersection), and Gangbyeon-ro (from Geumjanggyo intersection to Terminal intersection).
The travel speed on National Route 7 from Oedong intersection to Ihwa intersection increased by about 26%, from 30.4 km/h to 38.3 km/h, resulting in smoother traffic flow. Chronic traffic congestion was also resolved sequentially between Geumjanggyo intersection and Seogyeongju Station.
