The tournament organizing committee announced on the 28th (Korean time), "Due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the event will not be held this year," adding, "The tournament, originally scheduled to take place over four days starting October 1, will be postponed by one year to September 30 to October 3 next year." They further stated, "This is an unavoidable decision for the safety of everyone," and added, "Although it is regrettable that the tournament will not take place, we fully support the Scottish government's response to COVID-19."

This year marks the 20th edition and it is considered a relatively major event on the European stage. The total prize money is $5 million (approximately 5.98 billion KRW). It is famous for being played across three of Scotland's major links courses?the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns?known as the birthplace of golf.
