The 'Hanbando Flag (旗)' Will Be Displayed at Gyeonggi Provincial Government
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will simultaneously raise the 'Hanbando Flag,' a symbol of peace on the Korean Peninsula, at the Suwon Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the Uijeongbu Gyeonggi Northern Office from the 27th of this month until August 15th.
A provincial official explained on the 27th, "As part of efforts led by Gyeonggi Province to resolve the rapidly strained inter-Korean relations due to issues such as the distribution of leaflets to North Korea, and to publicly demonstrate the will for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and the unification determination of Gyeonggi residents, the flag will be raised from the Armistice Agreement Day (July 27) until Liberation Day (August 15) this year."
This Hanbando Flag raising was carried out after Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung accepted the request from the 'Gyeonggi Headquarters of the National Movement for the Resumption of Kaesong Industrial Complex and Mount Kumgang Tourism.'
Earlier, on the 8th, the 'Gyeonggi Headquarters of the National Movement for the Resumption of Kaesong Industrial Complex and Mount Kumgang Tourism' met with Lee Jae-gang, Gyeonggi Province’s Deputy Governor for Peace, and requested, "Please allow Gyeonggi Province, the gateway to unification and the center of inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, to publicly express the will for unification and the residents' hopes for peace."
Previously, the province boldly set up danger zones in border areas within the province to prevent the distribution of illegal leaflets threatening the safety and peace of residents, operated a permanent on-site crackdown response team, and filed complaints against related organizations.
