'Bangguseok 1yeol' Lee Kyung-mi Reveals Casting Story of Gong Hyo-jin in 'Miss Hongdangmu'

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Gong Hyo-jin talked about the casting process of the movie 'Miss Hongdangmu'.

On the 26th, the JTBC variety show 'Room 1열' featured actress Gong Hyo-jin and director Lee Kyung-mi. On this day, Gong Hyo-jin shared various anecdotes about the movies she starred in, 'Miss Hongdangmu' and 'More Than Family'.

Gong Hyo-jin spoke about the casting story of 'Miss Hongdangmu', saying, "At first, they cast very beautiful actresses who would have been hard to play this kind of character, but I heard they all declined."

She continued, "If I were really a beautiful actress, I might have done it, but it felt too plausible for me to take on. It suited me too well, and I thought I could really mess up. Not messing up by ruining myself, but it seemed like it would fit well."

In response, Bong Tae-gyu said, "As far as I know, when you were going through a lot of 고민 from your perspective, and during a slump, this project came to you."

Then Gong Hyo-jin revealed, "I was in a slump then. I was becoming a plain character, but I was very afraid that this movie might send me back to my original place like 'Whispering Corridors' did."

She added, "Honestly, I thought people wouldn't watch this movie much. When it was released, there was a big photo, so I asked the director, 'Director, what do we do?' Director Lee Kyung-mi said, 'Director Park Chan-wook chose it, so we can't help it.' I was actually in a panic for several days."

Director Lee Kyung-mi expressed gratitude, saying, "It was a big decision for Hyo-jin. Hyo-jin's red face could have become a meme, so as an actress, she might have had a lot of 고민 and found it hard to decide."
