What Is the Story Behind Housewife Choi Seongsuk from Garakbon-dong, Songpa-gu Receiving a COVID-19 Commendation?
Nonwoven Fabric Disinfection in 4 Steps Before Reaching the Room of Son Under Self-Quarantine... Songpa-gu Leads COVID-19 Response, 17 Distinguished Residents Selected
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] # In May, when the number of overseas arrivals was increasing, a housewife living in Garakbon-dong, Songpa-gu, became a hot topic in the media and on the internet for her self-quarantine case. This housewife thoroughly prepared her home to the extent that it resembled a quarantine facility upon the arrival of her son returning from studying in Japan. Disinfectants were placed at every passage from the entrance to the living room and rooms to spray disinfectant, and areas where spaces were separated were blocked with non-woven fabric to minimize contact with family members. There were a total of four stages of disinfection before reaching the son’s room, who was subject to self-quarantine.
Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced on the 26th that it selected housewife Choi Seong-sook, who showed exemplary practice in COVID-19 response through thorough self-quarantine, as a ‘Meritorious Citizen of Songpa-gu.’
The district selects citizens who have contributed to the development of the local community every month and awards them with a Meritorious Citizen commendation. This commendation was resumed after six months due to COVID-19, and on the 24th, an award ceremony was held where a total of 17 citizens, including housewife Choi Seong-sook, were commended.
In particular, as residents’ cooperation has become important in preventing infectious diseases such as self-quarantine and compliance with quarantine rules, the district expressed gratitude by selecting citizens who voluntarily took the lead in responding to COVID-19.
At this award ceremony, participants included housewife Choi Seong-sook, selected as a model case of self-quarantine; Kim Seon-gwang, who took the initiative in disinfecting every corner of the local area once a week; Park Mal-hee, who personally visited low-income and elderly living alone to check on their well-being amid potential welfare gaps caused by COVID-19; and Kim Hyun-mi, who actively participated in the campaign to save onion farms and contributed to building ties with sister cities.
The ceremony was held on a smaller scale than usual while complying with quarantine rules considering the COVID-19 situation.
At the event, housewife Choi Seong-sook said, “Since there are many asymptomatic infection cases, I paid more attention to thorough disinfection to avoid causing harm to my family and neighbors, and I feel rewarded that it helped many people.”
