Sinan-gun Operates 'Island Village Youth Reporter School with Google'
A 'Precious Opportunity' for Island Village Youth to Participate in a Global Network
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ki-woon] Jeonnam Sinan-gun (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 24th that it will hold the ‘Island Village Youth Reporter School with Google’ in cooperation with Google.
Google holds more than 80% of the global search engine market share and is one of the largest internet companies in the world, owning platforms such as YouTube.
The ‘Island Village Youth Reporter School with Google’ is conducted through online education using the Google Classroom platform. Island village youths will simultaneously access the designated platform and participate in real-time, non-face-to-face, interactive reporter classes with Lee Sung-kyu, Teaching Fellow of Google Korea News Lab.
The Island Village Youth Reporter School proceeds in the order of Google Search and News (Creation), Fact Checking and News (Creation), and Storytelling using Google Earth. Especially, in the last class, an online discussion session on becoming a good reporter will be held.
The schedule for the first session of the Island Village Youth Reporter School is from the 5th to the 26th of next month, with four sessions held once a week for one hour each. Youths who complete the entire education program will be issued a certificate of completion.
Sinan-gun is recruiting students for the reporter school targeting students from six high schools located in Sinan-gun, including Dochog High School, Sinan Marine Science High School, and Ha-ui High School, as well as out-of-school youths of the same age group.
The recruitment period is from the 27th to the 31st of this month, and youths wishing to participate can apply by phone or online to the Sinan-gun Island Culture Diversity Network TF team.
Park Woo-ryang, Governor of Sinan-gun, said, “I am very pleased that our island village youths will have a valuable opportunity to directly participate in the global network through the reporter school with Google,” adding, “I hope that the experience of the reporter school, which allows them to see the world more deeply and broadly through Google’s global curriculum, will remain a beautiful memory for our island village youths.”

Sinan-gun plans to expand the scope and opportunities of the education in consultation with Google Korea if the response to the first session of the ‘Island Village Youth Reporter School with Google’ is positive.
