Algae Warning Lifted at Nakdong River Lower Reaches Mulgeum and Maeri Stations... 34 Days After Issuance
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office lifted the algae bloom warning issued at the lower Nakdong River Mulgeum and Maeri points as of 3 p.m. on the 22nd.
The Nakdong River Office withdrew the algae bloom warning at the 'interest' level at Mulgeum and Maeri points 34 days after it was issued on June 18, as recent algae measurements were below the issuance criteria for two consecutive times.
Following the lifting of the algae bloom warning at the Chilseo point on the 21st, the warnings at Mulgeum and Maeri points were also lifted consecutively, resulting in no algae bloom warnings currently issued at any points along the Nakdong River.
The reason for lifting the algae bloom warning this time, as with the Chilseo point, is due to the significant monsoon rains that fell in the Nakdong River basin since last week, which reduced the concentration of cyanobacteria. It is expected that the algae bloom will remain subdued without significant increase until the end of July, when the monsoon season continues.

Lee Ho-jung, head of the Nakdong River Office, stated, "Although the green algae at all points along the Nakdong River have entered a subdued state, we are not letting our guard down. We will thoroughly prepare for the full-scale occurrence of green algae after the monsoon season."
