[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 21st, Lee Jung-ok, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, participated in a multi-stakeholder virtual meeting held by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and discussed the implementation measures of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Ministry announced on the 22nd.
This meeting was part of the preparations for the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly to be held in September this year, themed on accelerating gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. Chaired by Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of the UN General Assembly, the meeting included representatives from international organizations, civil society, human rights organizations, and academia.

Minister Lee participated in the dialogue among gender equality leaders, discussing "Challenges and Opportunities for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment" with ministers from countries such as Argentina and Armenia, as well as participants from human rights organizations, the private sector, and youth. She particularly emphasized that women must take a leading role in the policy response process to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and introduced Korea's exemplary case of providing socioeconomic support to women in more vulnerable positions.
