"Subsidized Price Around 20 Million KRW"…Peugeot Launches Electric Car 'e-208' in Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] French automaker Peugeot launched the pure electric vehicle 'New Peugeot e-208,' which can be purchased for the 20 million KRW range after subsidies, in the domestic market on the 21st.
The 'New Peugeot e-208' is Peugeot's first electric vehicle introduced in Korea and a core model pursuing Peugeot's electrification strategy. It enhances the premium feel of materials and is equipped with advanced safety and convenience features. In March, it was recognized for its marketability by being selected as the '2020 European Car of the Year.'
The New Peugeot e-208 is available in two trims, Allure and GT Line, priced at 41 million KRW and 45.9 million KRW including VAT, respectively. The Peugeot e-208 qualifies for the government's low-emission vehicle purchase subsidy, receiving a national subsidy of 6.53 million KRW. Depending on the vehicle registration region, additional subsidies from local governments may apply, making it possible to purchase the vehicle in the 20 million KRW range.
The New Peugeot e-208, Peugeot's first pure electric vehicle introduced in Korea, delivers a maximum output of 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 26.5 kg·m. It supports three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport, and also features a 'Brake' mode that enhances the regenerative braking system. Equipped with a 50kWh battery, it can travel 244 km on a full charge (domestic standard), and with a 100kW fast charger, approximately 80% battery charge is possible in 30 minutes.
The New Peugeot e-208 applies the e-CMP platform, the electric vehicle version of PSA Group's next-generation Common Modular Platform (CMP). By utilizing ultra-high-strength steel, high-strength steel, hot-formed steel, and aluminum, it improves safety and body rigidity while reducing weight by more than 30 kg.
The exterior design features LED daytime running lights (DRL) shaped like a 'lion's fang,' creating a strong impression, and the front grille is enlarged to make the body appear bigger. The side profile harmonizes a character line running from the A-pillar to the C-pillar with volume, giving a more dynamic impression. The electric vehicle-exclusive front grille, painted in the same color as the body, the Peugeot lion emblem exclusive to electric vehicles that appears green and blue depending on the viewing angle, and the electric vehicle-exclusive 'e' monogram on the C-pillar emphasize its electric vehicle identity.
The interior applies the latest ergonomically designed 3D i-Cockpit, combining functional excellence with a stylish atmosphere. Especially, the world's first 3D instrument cluster expresses various driving information three-dimensionally, allowing the driver to understand it more intuitively.
Smart vehicle management is also possible through the 'My Peugeot' application. Battery information can be checked in real-time via smartphone, and the scheduled charging function allows charging during nighttime hours when electricity rates are relatively cheaper.
The New Peugeot e-208 applies advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) at the highest level in its class for occupant safety and convenience. Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Active Safety Brake, speed limit recognition and recommended speed display, driver attention warning, rear camera, and rear parking sensors are standard on all trims.
The higher-end GT Line model supports Level 2 autonomous driving. It includes adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality that controls speed and distance as well as stop and restart, lane positioning assist (LPA), auto high beam assist, and an active blind spot monitoring system that supports safe lane changes.
