Aniplus Ranks No.1 for 3 Consecutive Weeks in Webtoon IP Interactive Exhibition Ticket Sales
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Aniplus is strengthening its media art business based on webtoon IP, emerging as a killer content in the 'post-COVID-19' era.
Aniplus announced on the 21st that Media & Art, its exhibition content production subsidiary, is recording the number one weekly reservation rate in the exhibition category with its five-senses satisfaction experiential exhibition, 'Yumi's Cells Special Exhibition.'
The 'Yumi's Cells' exhibition, the first in Korea to utilize popular webtoon IP, was launched by Media & Art with ticket reservations opening on the 1st of this month. Since then, it has ranked first in weekly reservation rates for three consecutive weeks on major reservation sites such as Interpark. In the first week of July, it recorded a ticket sales share of 56.7%.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues for a long time, cultural activities easily accessible in urban areas are gaining attention as a new trend. In line with the accelerating trend of transmedia, Aniplus expects synergy effects among its businesses such as animation, media art, characters, and spatial exhibitions to increase.
Although the cultural and arts industry has been generally contracted due to COVID-19, the digital content industry is rapidly growing. The webtoon market, optimized for mobile, has also expanded quickly. Webtoons are diversifying into new business models centered on creators and content consumers beyond online platforms.
Aniplus plans to strengthen its competitiveness in the media art business focused on digital content together with Media & Art. Currently, it is developing exhibition genres utilizing webtoons as copyrighted works and is promoting license-outs in overseas markets including China.
Since 2014, Media & Art has held various domestic and international exhibitions such as 'Van Gogh Inside.' It is a leading domestic exhibition content production company that has attracted a cumulative audience of 2.5 million. It has secured outstanding competitiveness in media art and spatial software business fields, including webtoon IP exhibitions like 'Yumi's Cells' and 'Moomin,' as well as launching the large-scale art museum brand Ground Siso.
A company official introduced, "The media art industry, including content production using webtoon IP, exhibitions, and characters, will grow," and added, "Aniplus has established a leading position in the media art market together with Media & Art."
