Jon Rahm (Spain) rose to number 1 with a score of 9.10 in the weekly official golf world rankings announced on the afternoon of the 20th (Korean time). He accumulated points by securing a 3-stroke victory (9-under 279) on the final day of the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament (total prize money $9.3 million) held that morning at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio (par 72). This is the first time in 31 years since Seve Ballesteros in 1989 that a Spanish player has held the top spot.
Rahm turned professional in 2016 and immediately won his first title at the Farmers Open in January 2017. He claimed trophies every year, including the CareerBuilder Challenge in January 2018 and the Zurich Classic last April. He also swept 6 wins on the European Tour. Last year was a highlight. In November, he won the DP World Tour Championship, the final event of the 2019 season, earning a $3 million prize and a $2 million 'Race to Dubai' first-place bonus, hitting a $5 million (60.17 billion KRW) jackpot.
