Kim Tae-nyeon’s Remarks on 'Relocating the National Assembly to Sejong City'... United Future Party Criticizes as "Encouraging Speculation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who argued on the 20th in the negotiation group representative speech that the Blue House and the National Assembly should be relocated to Sejong City to control real estate, the United Future Party criticized it as a "perfect chance for real estate speculation."
Bae Hyun-jin, the floor spokesperson of the United Future Party, said in a statement on the same day, "It is typical of the Moon Jae-in administration's subcontracted party to leak development information in advance in prime areas centered around Gangnam in Seoul and to inform them of the perfect chance for speculative purchases." This points out that Kim's statement about relocating to Sejong City could encourage speculation on housing and real estate in Sejong City.
He criticized, "At a time when real estate across the country is in ruins, this time they threw out a huge national development discourse called 'relocation of the National Assembly to Sejong City,'" adding, "As expected, it is typical of the top government and ruling party that promote speculation."
Bae said, "Among the total 29 pages of the speech manuscript, the mention of the chaotic Moon Jae-in-style real estate policy barely exceeds one page," and added, "The people are plunged into confusion and appeal with tears, but there was no apology, only threats." He continued, "'Publicness of housing' is a plausible phrase, but it seems to say that the state will provide houses, so don't buy them to make money, boldly targeting even legitimate tax saving and neoliberal economy. Are they really disputing with economics?"
Choi Hyung-doo, spokesperson of the United Future Party, also said, "We need to acknowledge the reality that the gap between the metropolitan area and local regions has widened further after the Sejong Administrative Complex City and properly promote a balanced national development strategy amid population decline and aging." Although Kim emphasized balanced national development through relocating the Blue House and the National Assembly to Sejong City on that day, Choi pointed out that the gap between the metropolitan area and local regions has actually widened since the promotion of Sejong City.

Choi said, "The crisis and challenges of the Republic of Korea presented by the ruling party floor leader in today's negotiation group representative speech can only be overcome by true cooperation, gathering the wisdom and experience of the people and the opposition party together," and added, "The Democratic Party, which broke the principle and tradition of parliamentary cooperation that has continued for over 30 years since democratization, must return to the principle of cooperation and develop the National Assembly into a hall of public opinion." Regarding the 'Korean New Deal,' he pointed out, "We need to discuss the efforts and experiences of past governments together and find lessons," and "We should also reflect on the wrong supplementary budget pointed out by the National Assembly Budget Office and discuss it from scratch."
