Hong Joon-pyo: "Daegu Emergency Living Expenses Support, One-time Allowance Distribution"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo criticized Daegu City's second emergency livelihood fund support as a "one-time allowance handout" and requested a reconsideration.
On the 19th, Hong said on Facebook, "It seems to be a policy modeled after Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung's youth allowance free payment show, but isn't there room to reconsider whether it is appropriate to use citizens' taxes in that way?"
He added, "100,000 won is not only far too little to prepare a Chuseok ancestral rite table, but it's also not like giving New Year's money to children," and said, "When the Moon administration gave out COVID-19 disaster relief funds last time, I said that one-time populist handouts were inappropriate, but this Daegu City decision feels truly absurd."

Hong also said, "With that money, you could build an infectious disease research center, build 40 outdated community welfare centers worth 6 billion won each, and greatly help rebuild Daegu's outdated infrastructure," adding, "Wasting such a large amount on a one-time allowance handout that hardly helps livelihoods is not a proper policy implementation for the citizens of Daegu."
