Pouch: "COVID-19 Treatment Will Be Developed by Fall"
Single Clone Antibody Clinical Trial Phase
Can Shorten Treatment Duration for Both Early and Symptomatic Patients
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), predicted that a treatment for COVID-19 could be developed by this fall.
In an interview with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, Fauci said, "Results from clinical trials of monoclonal antibodies that can be used for both prevention and treatment could be available by late summer or early fall."
Fauci compared monoclonal antibodies obtained from previously infected individuals to "precision bullets," explaining that they can be used for treatment at various stages. He said, "This is the treatment we really need," adding, "It could prevent hospitalization of patients in the early stages of symptoms and significantly reduce the duration of symptoms."
At the same time, Fauci strongly urged Americans to participate in social distancing. He expressed concern, saying, "Young people should wear masks, avoid crowded places, and follow quarantine guidelines to maintain social distancing," and warned, "Some young people are spreading COVID-19."
Regarding the U.S. government's response, he also argued that areas where COVID-19 is rapidly spreading should be reclassified from regions resuming economic activities and should implement timeouts and other measures.
Meanwhile, as new COVID-19 cases surge in the United States, new records for daily confirmed cases have been set. New cases are increasing in Florida, Texas, and California.
