The Ulsan Ulju-gun Public Health Center is operating the ‘Healthy Care Playground’ project for children attending after-school care classes at three elementary schools to prevent childhood obesity and promote health.
The project period is from July 20 to November. The Healthy Care Playground consists of nutrition and dietary education and physical activity programs. It is not a didactic education delivering health knowledge. The event program is play that motivates and interests children in why health is important.
This is the second year of the project following last year, targeting children attending after-school care classes at Onyang Elementary School, Banggi Elementary School, and Onsan Elementary School. Obesity measurements and health habit surveys are conducted before and after the program to analyze its effectiveness.
To sustain the project long-term, it will be promoted in cooperation with local community resources such as the Children’s Meal Management Support Center (Ulju Center), Ulju-gun Sports for All Association, and Ulsan Exercise Association.

Jung Jin-geun, director of the Ulju-gun Public Health Center, said, “The rate of childhood obesity is steadily increasing every year, with increased consumption of processed foods and decreased physical activity, so health promotion programs that support the healthy growth of future generations are needed,” adding, “We will establish healthy lifestyle habits through operating the Healthy Care Playground in connection with the local community.”
