"Let's Repair Old Houses and Live Long"... Seoul City Expands House Repair Academy Program
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Seoul City announced on the 17th that it will expand the 'Home Repair Academy On-site Training' program, designed to promote a culture of living longer by renovating old houses, from a total of 240 participants to 480 participants by November this year.
This training, which teaches both the theory and practical skills needed for home repair, has added new sessions on Tuesday-Wednesday and Thursday-Friday in addition to the existing weekend and Wednesday classes.
According to the expanded training plan, the four sessions of the basic course to be held next month can be applied for on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 23rd through Jipsuri.com. The first session of the advanced course, held on weekends starting from the 8th of next month, will accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis from the 21st.
The basic course is open to any adult Seoul citizen, while the advanced course, which focuses on specialized skills, is available to those who have completed the basic course in the current or previous year or are scheduled to complete it before the training date. Each course consists of a total of 8 days (48 hours) per session, and the tuition fee is 80,000 KRW.
Meanwhile, the city plans to ensure the safety of trainees by implementing thorough quarantine and infectious disease prevention measures during the training.

Ryu Hoon, Director of Urban Regeneration at Seoul City, said, “The Home Repair Academy training aims to encourage citizens to naturally participate in voluntary residential environment improvement by boosting their confidence and technical skills through hands-on home repair experiences that usually seem difficult.” He added, “Furthermore, we will provide various opportunities for those who have completed the Home Repair Academy training to contribute to the restoration of local communities and revitalization of the local economy through volunteer work or economic activities.”
