Pohang Cultural Foundation Selected 'YesulRo Cheolcheol' in Public Art Contest
"Public Art Project for Realizing Steel Art in Citizens' Daily Lives"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The public art online-offline fusion project 'Pohang Art Road Cheolcheol' by the Pohang Cultural Foundation in Gyeongbuk has been selected as the only institution in Daegu and Gyeongbuk for the '2020 Arko Public Art Project' hosted by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, receiving 50 million KRW in national funding.
According to Pohang City on the 14th, 'Pohang Art Road Cheolcheol' is a project to develop an integrated platform for over 170 iron sculptures accumulated over the past nine years at the Pohang Steel Art Festival. It includes roundtable discussions with citizens, development of art education programs, and photography of each artwork by renowned photographers.
The '2020 Arko Public Art Project' is a project aimed at expanding opportunities to enjoy art in daily life through public art, with 19 organizations including the Pohang Cultural Foundation finally selected. Notably, it is the first public institution outside the metropolitan area to be selected this year, which Pohang City proudly regards as a chance to re-evaluate the excellence of Pohang public art.
The 'Pohang Art Road Cheolcheol' project was evaluated as a proposal that can improve and develop the overall environment and related programs of public art managed by the Pohang Cultural Foundation. It is known to have received high scores in elements such as the necessity and public nature of the planned project, which accounts for 50% of the evaluation weight, the artistic level of the project results, transition to online content, scalability, and regeneration of public art works.

A representative of the Pohang Cultural Foundation said, "Through this public contest project, we hope that steel art can be realized in the daily lives of Pohang citizens," and added, "We ask for the citizens' great interest in the Pohang-style public art app to be unveiled along with the opening of the 2020 'Pohang Steel Art Festival' this coming September."
