[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Seo Young-seo] A man in his 60s who boarded a passenger ferry without a ticket and stole a passenger's wallet has been arrested by the Coast Guard on charges of theft and fraud.
The Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Superintendent Jeong Young-jin) announced on the 13th that on the 1st, A (61), who stole a wallet containing cash and a check card from a passenger cabin on a ferry from Mokpo to Sinan-gun Sinui Island, was urgently arrested and detained on the 10th after purchasing gold rings and clothing six times.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard, A showed meticulousness by boarding the ferry without a ticket to avoid leaving his personal information on the passenger list and targeted passengers sleeping in the cabin. However, after the report was filed, the Coast Guard quickly analyzed his movement route using CCTV footage from the ferry terminal and check card usage locations, leading to his capture.
An investigator stated, “Since A appeared to have lived a wandering life without a fixed residence, we plan to expand the investigation, believing there may be additional crimes committed to secure living expenses.”
