Development of Heat-Resistant 'Composite Brake'... Engineer of July
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Jaehun Shim, a senior researcher at Hyundai Motor Company who developed a heat-resistant composite brake, and Kyunghoon Kim, a senior researcher at ATEK AP who succeeded in domestic production of the banknote recirculation module, a core technology of financial automation machines (ATM), and developed the world's first technology to process cash and checks simultaneously, were selected as the recipients of the Korea Engineer Award for July by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 13th.
This award was established to encourage technological innovation in the industrial field and to foster a culture that values engineers. Each month, one engineer from a large company and one from a small or medium-sized enterprise are selected and awarded a prize of 7 million KRW.
Shim, the large company awardee, developed carbon ceramic composite brake technology with high heat dissipation characteristics. He secured proprietary composite brake technology by developing design techniques to improve air flow and technologies to increase thermal conductivity. He stated, "I will continue to make greater efforts to maintain technological superiority for high-performance and eco-friendly vehicles in the future."

Kim, the small and medium-sized enterprise awardee, succeeded in domestic production of the banknote recirculation module, a core technology of financial automation machines. He also developed the world's first technology to process cash and checks simultaneously. Kim said, "I will continue to strive for differentiated technology development using artificial intelligence in various fields requiring logistics and automation, as well as finance."
