[Breaking] US Department of Commerce Withdraws Hong Kong Special Status (Update 2)
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The U.S. Department of Commerce announced on the 29th (local time) the suspension of special status benefits for Hong Kong, including export license exceptions.
On the 29th (local time), the Department of Commerce made the announcement through a statement by Secretary Wilbur Ross, expressing concerns over China's handling of the Hong Kong National Security Law.
In the statement, Secretary Ross said, "The enactment of the Hong Kong Security Law has increased the risk that sensitive U.S. technology could be diverted to the Chinese People's Liberation Army or the Ministry of State Security," adding, "Due to this threat, the United States has decided to withdraw Hong Kong's special status."
