The space is approximately 57㎡ (17 pyeong) in size and was filled with indiscriminately grown weeds and accumulated waste.
After tidying up the environment, the trainees planted shrubs such as Hwanggeumsacheol, Malchae, and Namcheon, grasses (Pampas grass, Flat barley sedge, Scurf), and perennial flowering plants (Mokmagaret, Gaura).
This garden creation was promoted as part of the ‘Yellow City Citizen Gardener Training’ program implemented by Jangseong-gun.
The county is cultivating citizen gardeners to professionally manage small village gardens located throughout the region. This year’s training, which started on the 5th, is conducted 3 to 4 times a month over 5 months, with lectures given by active gardening experts.
Yoo Doo-seok, the mayor of Jangseong-gun, said, “Citizen gardeners are landscaping leaders who recreate the value of abandoned land into fragrant gardens,” and added, “We will jointly envision the beautiful future of Yellow City Jangseong through the power of governance.”
Meanwhile, Jangseong-gun plans to cultivate a total of 100 citizen gardeners by 2022.
